MLS announced some details Thursday afternoon on the league’s upcoming SuperDraft and player combine. Here are the highlights (more information is available in the press release):
* * *
— The 2013 MLS SuperDraft will take place in Indianapolis on Jan. 17. at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
— It will include two rounds of 38 selections overall. The order of the first nine teams, the ones that didn’t qualify for postseason, is determined by their finish in the 2012 regular season. The rest of the order is determined by playoff performance (though, of course, some picks have already been traded).
— The Sounders are set to pick 16th and 35th, though it hasn’t been made known what conditional picks were given up to Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC in the acquisitions of Mario Martinez and Marcus Hahnemann, respectively.
— A four-round supplemental draft will be held Jan. 22 on a conference call.
— For the ninth year in a row the draft will be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) convention.
— Preceding the draft will be the MLS combine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., once again. Prospects will be divided into four teams and games will be played Jan. 11, 13 and 15.
— Tickets for combine games are $10 and the player pool is yet to be determined.
