College Cup final set (Saturday links)

college cup2012.jpgThere will be no Sounders connections in Sunday’s College Cup final, where the No. 3 seed Georgetown faces No. 16 Indiana in Hoover, Ala.

The Hoyas knocked out Maryland (where Marc Burch played in college) via penalty-kick shootout in the semifinals following a thrilling 4-4 tie in regulation/overtime. The Hoosiers knocked out Andrew Duran‘s Creighton in the other semifinal, 1-0.

— Gorilla FC’s end-of-the-year party is coming up Friday. Here are some details.

— Around the league, the Impact announced some moves, Columbus is bringing back midfielder Tony Tchani, and there were reports this morning that Toronto FC was set to hire Jesse Marsch (but those have been denied according to several reports, as well).

Soccer By Ives passed along a report that Jose Luis Sanchez Sola is set to become Chivas USA’s new coach.

— On the transfer front, here’s a report saying Juninho is definitely on track to join the Red Bulls, and a former MLS forward just made a big move over in Europe.

— The Sporting News passed along some lessons learned this past MLS season and what teams can take from it into the offseason.

— The U.S. women beat China, 2-0, earlier today on goals by Carli Lloyd and former Sounders Women’s forward Sydney Leroux. The two teams will face off a couple more times.

FOX Soccer caught up with U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper Tim Howard, who has faced some criticism over his recent play at Everton.
