Give a warm welcome to the National Women’s Soccer League

nwsl.jpgIt’s official: The new eight-team professional women’s soccer league — of which Seattle will be participating — will be called the National Women’s Soccer League.

Here’s link to its Twitter feed (@NWSL_soccer) and its Facebook page.

A league website will be launched in the near future. Games are set to being in the spring of 2013.

“We are working on finalizing a number of league items, but we now have a name and a logo that we think the fans will identify with and enjoy,” said executive director Cheryl Bailey. “This is a league we have to build from the bottom up and we have a group of dedicated owners and talented support staff at U.S. Soccer to keep this process moving in a positive direction while slowly growing the brand.”

Also in the league are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit and Western New York Flash.

Seattle’s team, which is owned by Bill Predmore, is yet to announce its name and logo, but recent rumors on social media are indicating Reign FC.

Any thoughts?
