Osvaldo Alonso in England for weeklong training stint with West Ham United

alonso mug 2012.jpgSounders FC confirmed Tuesday that midfielder Osvaldo Alonso is in England for a one-week training stint with West Ham United of the Premier League.

The trip was coordinated by Alonso’s agent and the Sounders.

The training stint was first made known after pictures surfaced here. West Ham is currently 11th out of 20 teams in the Premier League standings and features players like forward Andy Carroll (you may know him from time with Newcastle and Liverpool) and midfielder Yossi Benayoun (formerly of Liverpool and Chelsea).

Alonso is Seattle’s three-time team MVP and a two-time MLS All-Star. Last month, the 27-year-old Cuban-American was named to the 2012 MLS Best XI.

You might remember Alonso and Steve Zakuani trained with Everton of the Premier League after the 2010 season. I asked coach Sigi Schmid a few weeks ago if anyone might train abroad in the offseason. He said there were no such plans at that moment, but that “there might still be one or two who might go.”

Any thoughts?
