UEFA Champions League draws Round of 16

uefa_champions_league_logo_2921.jpgFor some odd reason, I decided to stay up for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw early Thursday morning.

I’ll pay for this tomorrow — make that later today — and forgive any typos that may occur at this late hour.

First, a couple notes of explanation: Group winners are listed first and will host the second leg of each respective two-game series. Those group winners couldn’t be paired in the Round of 16 with teams from the same country or the runner-up faced in the group stage.

Also, there are a couple Americans still involved in the tournament; midfielder Jermaine Jones plays for German club Schalke 04 and defender Oguchi Onyewu plays for Spain’s Malaga.

Games will be played Feb. 12/13 and Feb. 19/20, with second legs on March 5/6 and March 12/13.

Lastly, it hasn’t been a great run for English sides, with reigning UEFA Champions League winner Chelsea FC already knocked out along with reigning Premier League champ Manchester City.
