Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

Taking a few days off (Thursday links)

I had meant to get a post up earlier, but I wasn’t afforded much time between helping out on Sunday Night Football coverage and heading out of town for the holidays. Either way, I’ll be off the rest of this week (one of the few chances for a break in this MLS-loaded calendar).

‘Tis the season for rumors and, sometimes, news, so here are a few things to keep an eye on.

Fredy Montero chatter has persisted regarding a potential loan to Colombia’s Millonarios. Other links, whether silly or not, have mentioned defender Christoph Metzelder (a former German national) as a possible option for the Sounders, and the league website made a note of mentioning Mario Martinez as possibly having Twitter dreams about playing in Turkey.

Seattle as a potential host location for a FIFA World Cup qualifier is also a hot topic.

Around the league, Houston made a big acquisition, trading for Colorado forward Omar Cummings in exchange for Nathan Sturgis and allocation money. Elsewhere, New England has signed a homegrown product and it doesn’t sound like Thierry Henry will be going back to Arsenal on loan.

MLSsoccer.com has continued its year-end series, where Brad Evans earned mention for being underrated, Ross Fletcher was runner-up for Call of the Year, and the ECS were honored for the top tifo of 2012.

Lastly, it sure looks like Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson got another call-up for the U.S. men’s national team, presumably for January camp…
