NWSL allocates Hope Solo, Megan Rapinoe to Reign FC, Alex Morgan to Portland

reignfc.jpgUPDATE 2:52 p.m. — Here are some comments from the team as posted on Reign FC’s Facebook page:

“There were certainly some surprises within the allocation process but overall we’ve come out in a good position. We’ve got a strong core group of world-class players, and look forward to building from this foundation in the weeks ahead.” — General Manager Amy Carnell

“I’m happy with the allocation. We’ve got a great mixture of positions and players with lots of experience. A great start to an exciting time! I look forward to working with these players and focusing on building the rest of our squad.” — Head Coach Laura Harvey

The NWSL announced the allocation of 55 national-team players to the league’s eight teams on Friday. Here are Seattle Reign FC’s players:

Hope Solo (USA)

Megan Rapinoe (USA)

Amy Rodriguez (USA)

Kaylyn Kyle (CAN)

Emily Zurrer (CAN)

Jenny Ruiz (MEX)

Teresa Noyola (MEX)

Solo and Rapinoe played this past summer for the Sounders Women. A few of their teammates from that star-studded group were sent elsewhere: Alex Morgan to Portland (interesting choice, that one), Sydney Leroux to Boston, Veronica Perez to the Western New York Flash, Keelin Winters to Chicago.

“This allocation process is obviously a big step in building the foundation for this league and each of the teams will benefit from a group of very talented players,” said NWSL executive director Cheryl Bailey in a news release. “This is always a difficult process, but we believe there was a fair distribution of talent across all eight teams and with the NWSL College Draft coming up in Indianapolis on Jan. 18, the rosters of the clubs will really start to take shape.”

Due to the odd 55 numbers with eight teams, Western New York only received two USWNT players. Here are the full allocations:
