Sounders FC holds all its natural picks and more in 2013 drafts

MLS Logo.jpgAfter a blink-and-you-miss-it offseason, MLS action is starting to pick up this week. The SuperDraft is Thursday, Sounders FC’s preseason training camp opens Monday, and the Supplemental Draft is Tuesday.

As a reminder, Seattle still has all of its natural picks in both drafts, plus one acquired in a trade that sent defender Jeff Parke to Philadelphia.

Here’s a look:

MLS SuperDraft

No. 16 overall, first round (natural selection)

No. 35 overall, second round (natural selection)

MLS Supplemental Draft

No. 5 overall, first round (acquired in Jeff Parke trade with Philadelphia)

No. 16 overall, first round (natural selection)

No. 35 overall, second round (natural selection)

No. 54 overall, third round (natural selection)

No. 73 overall, fourth round (natural selection)

And a few notes going forward…

— The Sounders traded a conditional draft pick last year to Toronto FC for the No. 1 spot in the allocation order to sign goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann. It’s believed those conditions will be satisfied in the 2013 season, meaning the pick will likely be given up in 2014.

— Seattle also traded a conditional draft pick to Real Salt Lake last season for the discovery rights to sign midfielder Mario Martinez on loan. That pick is also expected to be relevant to 2014 drafts.

— Lastly, Seattle traded its natural third-round pick in 2014 to Vancouver in order to acquire defender Marc Burch with the No. 1 overall pick in the second round of the 2011 MLS Re-Entry Process.
