Sounders reserves to play Orlando City SC (Friday links)

orlandocity.jpgAs part of MLS’s recent parternship with USL PRO, Sounders FC will have a couple more reserve games this upcoming season.

Along with 10 MLS Reserve League games, Seattle will play home (May 12) and away (Aug. 11), against Orlando City SC, a team that once took midfielder/defender Michael Tetteh on loan for a short while.

Here’s a look at other such interleague matchups from the partnership, and Sounder at Heart has a good early look at how the news might affect the Sounders.

— Remember all the ball boy talk from yesterday? Well, here’s a new look at the kick that makes it look a little less malicious. And here’s a confession from an old boy about what he did to waste time and such.

Big news regarding Real Salt Lake on Thursday as majority owner and founder Dave Checketts sold his shares to minority owner Dell Loy Hansen. Here is the official announcement from the team and a quote sheet.

— Around the league, Timbers owner Merritt Paulson has all but announced Portland will host the 2014 MLS All-Star Game, The Home Depot Center could be getting a new name, Joao Plata could be headed to RSL, D.C. United signed an Indonesian midfielder, and it sounds like Chivas USA is looking to shop midfielder Shalrie Joseph.

— MLSsoccer.com has a by-the-numbers look at the league’s coaches, plus some analysis of recent hires.

— The league website also has Episode 1 and Episode 2 of “Inside the SuperDraft”, plus a look at the unlucky players who might’ve deserved more goals last year.

— In a couple worthwhile long reads, here’s the amazing story of MLS draft pick Machael David (a Tacoma native) and here’s a look at Tijuana’s upstart team that is bridging the gap between Mexican and American soccer.

— Here is Grant Wahl‘s latest mailbag at SI.com.

FOX Soccer caught up with American goalkeeper Brad Friedel and his plans for the future.

Twitter tells us supplemental draft pick Will Bates has had his knee surgery. It also tell us he has signed. There hasn’t been any official word yet and I’ll see what I can find out.

— A local fan is going to dribble a soccer ball to Brazil?

— Lastly, here are some highlights of Millonarios’ 2-1 loss Thursday against Santa Fe in some early season action. Fredy Montero came off the bench and nearly scored the equalizer on a free kick in stoppage time (he also drew the foul) at around the 2:14 mark.
