A third addition in Sounders FC’s offseason

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgFans need no reminding: It hasn’t been an exciting offseason for the Sounders.

A pair of standouts in Fredy Montero and Jeff Parke are gone, and little has been done so far in the way of impact additions.

Lamar Neagle‘s acquisition Sunday was a nice move, particularly as Seattle will look to get more goals from midfielders in 2013, but he’s not likely looking at a starting role and doesn’t appear to address an immediate need (the position group already appeared pretty strong).

We do know the Sounders are still looking, though.

Coach Sigi Schmid told The Seattle Times at Friday night’s Seattle Sports Star banquet that forward is a particular area of interest following Montero’s departure: “We’re still looking at possibly another player there, another DP-type of player.”

That approach has been assumed but perhaps never expressed so clearly. One would think center back is also an area of concern.

Anyways, here’s a look at the transactions so far from the end of last season:

* * *

INCOMING: DeAndre Yedlin (signed as a homegrown player), Eriq Zavaleta (signed as a Generation Adidas player), Lamar Neagle (acquired in a trade with Montreal)

OUTGOING: Fredy Montero (on loan with Colombia’s Millonarios for 2013), Jeff Parke (traded to Philadelphia), Bryan Meredith (option declined, signed with Swedish club IK Brage), Andrew Weber (option declined, last we heard he was training with Real Salt Lake), Mike Seamon (option declined, free agent), Cordell Cato (option declined, hasn’t made agreement with team to join preseason), Michael Tetteh (option declined), O’Brian White (option declined)

PENDING: Dylan Remick (unsigned SuperDraft pick), Will Bates (unsigned supplemental draft pick), Kevin Durr (unsigned supplement draft pick), Kevin Olali (unsigned supplemental draft pick), Lebogang Moloto (unsigned supplemental draft pick), Jennings Rex (unsigned supplemental draft pick), Doug Herrick (trialist), Philip Lund (trialist), Guy Essame (trialist), Travis Bowen (trialist), Ashani Fairclough (trialist), Manuel Asprilla (trialist), Jonas Rasmussen (trialist), Ross LaBauex (trialist), Marvin Angulo (trialist), Jose Cuevas (trialist), Justin Davis (trialist), Cody Ellison (trialist), David Opoku (trialist), Isaiah Schafer (trialist)

Note: Schmid said there might be some cuts over the weekend, so this could stand for some updating sometime Monday. Stay tuned.

Update: Nine trialists have been cut from camp.
