Sounders-Timbers preseason game Tuesday moved up to 9:30 a.m. (Monday links)

Seattle Sounders FC Logo.jpgA quick note from the team: Tuesday’s preseason game against Portland in Tucson, Ariz., has been moved up to 9:30 a.m. PT.

The rivalry action will be streamed online at MLSsoccer.com and Sounders FC.com.

Coach Sigi Schmid indicated in a conference call last week that the newcomers would stand to get most of the minutes against the Timbers — plus guys coming back from injury, like Steve Zakuani and Babayele Sodade.

Portland is getting pretty excited for it, too. (Coach Caleb Porter: “We understand the rivalry. And it will be talked about.”)

Let’s get to some links:

* * *

— First off, here is Steve Kelley’s farewell column, which included a fair amount of Sounders influence.

— In response today’s USMNT news, ProSoccerTalk has some reaction, Soccer By Ives has a projected lineup, and coach Jurgen Klinsmann talked about his decisions here.

— The league website caught up with Brad Evans down in Miami about his role with the national team.

— Here’s a fun story on some USMNT history. And did you see Honduras is declaring Wednesday afternoon a national holiday so the country can get behind the team’s qualifier against the U.S.?

— Around the league, former Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders is in camp with Real Salt Lake, the Dilly Duka/Dominic Oduro trade between Chicago and Columbus has gone official, as has the trade that sent Eric Hassli from Toronto to Dallas for a conditional second-round pick.

— Also, former Timbers midfielder Franck Songo’o is trying to catch on with Houston, Vancouver forward Darren Mattocks is off to a fast start in preseason, New York’s Roy Miller got a Costa Rica call-up, and Herbalife is under investigation?

— Here’s the latest episode from “Inside the SuperDraft”.

— Around the world, did you see 680 games since 2008 could have been involved in match fixing? And Mario Balotelli had a sparkling debut with AC Milan, Germany has its first woman broadcaster for a men’s game, and the sad story for former England great Paul Gascoigne continues.

— Quick note: Reign FC plans to announce its free agent signings today, so look out for that.

— The Sounders Women will be hosting open tryouts March 16 and 17 at Starfire. Registration is $50 and open on the team website.

— There are more than two women’s soccer teams in the area, and a club called AC Seattle has joined the WPSL. Issaquah SC and Emerald City SC are also in the division.

— Lastly, we’re less than a month away to the start of the season…
