National Signing Day.
It’s big in the college football world but also extends to other sports as high-school prospects sign letters of intent to play in college.
Eight products of the Sounders FC Academy have signed for programs across the country, according to the club, and here they are:
— Kyle Bjornethun (Defender, Glacier Peak HS): Seattle University
— Jordan Kollars (Midfielder, Central Kitsap HS): Seattle Pacific University
— Jason McGlothern (Midfielder, Mount Rainier HS): Virginia Commonwealth University
— Mark Matula (Defender, Eastlake HS): Drexel University
— Michael Steele (Midfielder, Insight School): Oregon State University
— Jacob Hauser-Ramsey (Forward, Shorewood HS): Cincinnati University
— Jordan Morris (Midfielder, Mercer Island HS): Stanford University
— Ike Crook (Forward, Todd Beamer HS): College of Charleston
One well-known academy prospect, defender Jalen Markey of O’Dea High School, who has been involved with U.S. youth national teams, recently decommitted from Syracuse.
The Sounders academy will host an open house in July to allow families a chance to learn more about the teams and programs.
Elsewhere, the University of Washington has signed nine players, including several local products from Crossfire Premier, Eastside FC and the Portland Timbers academy.
