Here are some highlights from the U.S. men’s national team’s 2-1 loss to Honduras in a FIFA World Cup qualifier Wednesday.
Clint Dempsey put the U.S. up in the 36th minute on a fine volley on a lob pass from Jermaine Jones. The hosts equalized four minutes later on a spectacular bicycle kick by Juan Carlos Garcia, and Honduran forward Jerry Bengston, who also plays for the New England Revolution, scored the winner in the 79th minute.
Regarding Sounders FC’s representation, Mario Martinez put in a full 90 for the winners. Eddie Johnson started and played 58 minutes and Brad Evans made the trip but did not play.
Omar Gonzalez and Timmy Chandler are officially cap tied to the U.S. as a result of their participation in what was Honduras’ first win in the since 2002 (1-9-1).
The U.S. returns to action March 22nd against Costa Rica at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.
