USMNT continues its road to the World Cup (Wednesday links)

US Centennial shield-01-1.jpg.pngIt’s game day.

The U.S. men’s national team is in Honduras for a 1 p.m. qualifier (the Comcast guide says beIN SPORT will have the broadcast on Channel 785, but I’ve been wrong on that before). The federation had this explanatory note on broadcasts.

As a reminder, three Sounders could be involved. Mario Martinez is set to start for Honduras. Eddie Johnson is most likely a bench option. Brad Evans is probably deepest on the USMNT bench.

Here’s video of Portland coach Caleb Porter‘s postgame interview after Tuesday’s preseason game. Also, Timbers forward Brent Richards, a Camas native and UW product, recently underwent ACL surgery.

— Around the league, the Colorado Rapids announced they will be fully funding their developmental academy,

— In some more stuff from SI.com, Grant Wahl caught up with Egyptian national team coach Bob Bradley (formerly of the USMNT) and here’s a projection of the country’s 2014 World Cup squad (no Sounders included).

— Local author Doug Thiel has a new historical Sounders piece up at GoalWA.net. You can find more of Thiel’s work, which has received top reviews from local soccer figures, on his website.

Here’s a guide for some other international soccer viewing today.

— Around the world of soccer, Leo Messi is set to sign with Barcelona through 2018 and you won’t believe what an AC Milan executive called new acquisition Mario Balotelli.

— This kid has the best throw-in ever…
