USSF president gives strong indications that Seattle will host a World Cup qualifier in 2013

It appears U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati spoke with reporters in Honduras before this afternoon FIFA World Cup qualifier.

One of the topic that came up was host venues for the USMNT’s five home games in the final round of qualifying. Just one so far has been announced: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo., for a March 22 game against Costa Rica.

The other home dates:

June 11 — vs. Panama (TBD)

June 18 — vs. Honduras (TBD)

Sept. 10 — vs. Mexico (TBD)

Oct. 11 — vs. Jamaica (TBD)

We’ve known since December that the Sounders have been in talks with U.S. Soccer to bring a World Cup qualifier to Seattle. Gulati gave big hints to reporters today that CenturyLink Field could in fact get one of those games.

This city hasn’t hosted a stand-alone U.S. men’s national team game since 2003.

What do you think? Getting excited yet? Or trying to keep a Sonics-like patience and waiting until it’s official?
