Should the Sounders change their shape? (Saturday links)

Interesting story on the other day, questioning if Sounders FC should change its shape from a 4-4-2.

I asked coach Sigi Schmid a similar question earlier this preseason, more so if Fredy Montero’s departure might result in a change of the team’s shape.

Here was the answer:

“I don’t think it’s really going to change our shape all that much. We’re going to stay sort of in a 4-4-2. We’ll still have wingers with (Mauro) Rosales and with Steve (Zakuani) and also with Mario Martinez — guys who can play on the wing and go at people 1v1. I think that’s a big plus for our team still. We’ve got Eddie Johnson up front and who pairs with him is someone who has to be able to work off him, as well. It’s somebody who needs to be high and can get in onto crosses, because we’re a team that gets to the end line between our wingers and our fullbacks.”

Food for thought. Anyways, let’s get to some links…
