Happy Valentine’s Day! (Thursday links)
First off, I hope everyone has a nice Valentine’s Day, and I believe it was last year exactly when Hope Solo signed with the Sounders Women.
Let’s get to some links…

— Sad news out of England, where it appears Roy Sinclair, who played for the NASL Sounders and later the Tacoma Tide, died last month. I didn’t know much about Sinclair, unfortunately, but his Wikipedia profile notes he also coached locally for Bellevue Community College, Chief Sealth High School and Seattle University.
— It looks like Mario Martinez is on his way to Arizona. He had some personal matters to deal with following national team duty.
— Here are some more thoughts from the Sounders-Revolution preseason game from the scene in Tucson.
— Around the league, former Sounders trialist Leo Lelis is now in camp with Chicago, ex-Sounder Mike Fucito has signed with San Jose (his fourth club in 12 months), ex-Sounder James Riley tweeted that he’s off to D.C. United, and the Timbers acquired not one but two Akron products in trades Wednesday.
— It doesn’t look like MLS will have goal-line technology in place for this upcoming season.
— Whitecaps fans went to a Canucks game and things, well, got interesting.
— The USMNT dropped to No. 32 in the FIFA world rankings. Think 23 different lineups in Jurgen Klinsmann‘s 23 games has something to do with it?
— SI.com gives us a UEFA Champions League roundup from Wednesday plus some comments on Gus Johnson‘s soccer debut for FOX Soccer (with insight from Johnson’s boss).
— MLSsoccer.com’s Kickoff has some interesting news on U.S. national Alejandro Bedoya and more on the possible return of Carlos Ruiz.
— Where did the “Sounders” name come from? Read about it in Doug Thiel‘s latest piece for GoalWA.net.
— Lastly, Reign FC’s Megan Rapinoe scored the opening goal in the USWNT’s 3-1 win over Scotland, and Hope Solo went a full 90 in goal. Here are some French lessons with Rapinoe and Tobin Heath, who will each be playing in France to start the NWSL season…
