The Fredy Montero tracker will be active this year from 4,000 miles away.
And the Sounders FC forward, who is on loan with Colombia’s Millonarios for 2013, scored his second goal of the league season Saturday against Envigado. You can spot it above, a sensational diving header for the lone score in the 1-0 win.
Montero is up to two goals (both headers) and an assist in three games, as Millonarios is off to a 2-0-1 start.
And now the real fun starts.
The team will be in big-time action at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in its Copa Libertadores opener against Club Tijuana, a.k.a. Xolos, the reigning Mexican league champ. The two other teams in the group are Corinthians (Brazil) and San Jose (Bolivia).
Copa Libertadores is a tournament for the top clubs in South America, and participation in such a prestigious event was one of the major draws for Montero’s return to Colombia. And if he continues to produce like he has, perhaps we could see more involvement with the national team and/or interest from club teams for a permanent transfer.
Again, the tracker will be active…
