Hope Solo to undergo surgery on wrist, estimated recovery 6-8 weeks

UPDATE 8:50 p.m. — Reign FC announced late Thursday night that Solo will be undergoing surgery on her wrist. Estimated recovery is six to eight weeks. The team’s first NWSL game is about seven weeks out.

Reign FC goalkeeper Hope Solo, a Richland native, has been left off the U.S. women’s national team’s roster for the Algarve Cup due to a wrist injury that may require surgery.
According to a news release from U.S. Soccer, Solo has been playing through ligament damage for a while and the injury recently flared up. The team’s medical staff has advised her to address the issue now with Women’s World Cup qualifying not until the end of 2014.
It is uncertain how long Solo, a University of Washington product, will be out.
Club teammate Megan Rapinoe was named to the USWNT’s 23-player squad, but will join late following league action in France with Lyon.
The U.S. is set to face Iceland, China and Sweden in Group B action as the tournament runs from March 6-13in Portugal. All the games will be available on pay-per-view. More information is available in the release.
Other Seattle connections on the squad include former Sounders Women’s stars Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux.
