Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

New jersey day (Wednesday links)

Sounders FC’s new uniforms for the 2013 MLS season will be unveiled at 5:30 p.m. in a private event at the Cinerama Theater downtown. I’ll be there, we’ll have a photographer there, too, and I’m sure the team will put out tons of photos.

Until then, there are a lot of details on the new Rave green uniforms and a lot of details on the new Cascade shale uniforms on MLSgear.com.

Of course, the Rave green jerseys and Cascade shale uniforms have already leaked here and here. So there you go.

Let’s get to some links:

*     *     *

— First off, I was a guest on the Nos Audietis podcast the other day.

— Here is a report from Spain (there are many of the like) noting Obafemi Martins‘ unhappiness with Levante. It’s pretty clear he’s hoping for a move to Seattle. Here’s a report saying the forward has accepted the Sounders’ contract offer of three years (plus an option year) for $2.5 million per season that could go as high as $3.5 million with bonuses.

The league website caught up with Marcus Hahnemann down in Arizona for a feature.

— Season previews are all over the web these days, and here is ESPN.com’s preview of the Sounders. Plus, here’s mention of Mario Martinez in another piece on top replacements (e.g. for Fredy Montero).

— Here is MLSsoccer.com’s preview of the Sounders, which has links to other pieces.

— Around the league, San Jose star Chris Wondolowski has signed a new deal and will be a designated player. Also, the Earthquakes sound interested in signing Cordell Cato, and thus giving some compensation to the Sounders.

— Down in Portland, Will Johnson has been named captain and Mikael Silvestre appears to have had his visa approved.

— Elsewhere, the commissioner will hold a big chat on Google/YouTube this afternoon, here are some news and notes from D.C. United camp, and Gershon Koffie signed a new deal with Vancouver and earned permanent resident status.

— Philadelphia’s got some cool new uniforms, and Thierry Henry doesn’t seem much pleased with Kenny Cooper having to leave New York because of salary issues.

— ProSoccerTalk ranked its top left midfielders (there’s a Steve Zakuani mention) and MLSsoccer.com had its experts pick their top goalkeeper (there are a lot of Michael Gspurning mentions).

— Be sure to check out this survey on SI.com. Very fun and informative.

Interesting read here on the New York Cosmos, too.

— Congrats to the U.S. U-20s for clinching a berth in the U-20 World Cup with a 4-2 win over Canada in the CONCACAF U-20 championships. Did I say U-20 enough there? U-20.

— The Equalizer has some more details regarding the upcoming NWSL season.

— Did you see former No. 1 overall draft pick Nik Besagno has been hired as Washington Crossfire’s head coach?

— Season tickets for the Sounders FC U-23s are on sale.

— Like the Sounders and pub crawls? Check this out.

— Lastly, I was sad to have missed the Barcelona-Real Madrid game yesterday afternoon. Sounds like it was an interesting one. And is Mario Balotelli having a statue built of himself?
