Some Sounders FC fans, I’m sure, are starting to salivate over the thought of a forward pairing that features Eddie Johnson and Obafemi Martins.
I asked Johnson (who played at Fulham) today if he had crossed paths with Martins (who played at Newcastle) a few times in England.
“I played against him a couple of times,” Johnson said. “One thing about football in England is the soccer world is really small, so we all have mutual friends. If (the signing) happens, we’re happy and we’re delighted. He’s a very, very good player — someone at one point we all can say was supposed to be the next big thing when he was coming up as a younger player. He has that experience playing in Serie A and playing in the EPL and playing in the Bundesliga and now playing in La Liga. It says a lot about the type of player he is, so to add that type of player to the organization, I’d be delighted. Speaking on behalf of the team, I’m pretty sure those guys (would be), as well.”
What do you think? A perfect partnership?
I’ll have more notes from Thursday’s practice soon.
