Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid gave a pair of injury updates heading into Saturday’s MLS opener against Montreal.
Two of the more recent concerns have been midfielder Mario Martinez, who was out earlier this week with a sore knee, and defender Adam Johansson, who has been recovering from a knee strain suffered in the Desert Diamond Cup.
“Mario has been fine,” Schmid said. “He’s trained the lasts two days. Adam is still a little tentative, so it’s probably going to be more of a game-time decision if he’s able to go or not.”
A couple other guys that probably won’t feature are midfielder Shalrie Joseph (calf strain) and defender Djimi Traore. Each will need a little bit of time to get into game-shape.
Seattle also has a couple players suspended for the game: Osvaldo Alonso, for a red card in the last game of the 2012 playoffs, and Marc Burch, the last of his three-game suspension for directing a gay slur at an opponent.
NOTE: The Real Salt Lake Twitter feed has indicated the MLS injury report will be less formal this season, and full updates won’t be required from teams.
@madisonroad no regular updates required, teams are “encouraged” to include updates in game notes
