Still waiting for a goal (Thursday links)

Two games. Two 1-0 losses for Sounders FC.

Certainly the two results don’t feel the same, but grumblings are started to grow regarding the offense. In fact, when you go back to preseason — which admittedly can be tricky when it comes to meaningful stats — Seattle’s first team hasn’t scored a goal in 282 minutes.

3/6 — Tigres UANL (90 minutes)
3/2 — Montreal (90 minutes)
2/22 — Veracruz (90 minutes, preseason exhibition)
2/20 — New York (final 12 minutes, Desert Diamond Cup)

Starting to get concerned?

Let’s get to some links:

*     *     *

— First off, American international Jose Torres continues to embrace his roots with his Mexican club team, as seen in last night’s game.

Obafemi Martins is indeed in the starting lineup this afternoon for Levante UD in a UEFA Europa League Round of 16 match against Russia Rubin Kazan (one of Martin’s former teams). Levante’s coach said he doesn’t expect the whole transfer saga to be much of an issue going into the game.

Here is another story from Germany on Christian Tiffert‘s departure. The former Sounders DP apparently found out on the internet that the team planned on getting rid of him.

— Want to know how goalkeeper Doug Herrick (Sounders FC U-23s, trains with the first team) has been doing with the Guamanian national team in the AFC Challenge Cup? Here you go.

— Here are the referee assignment for Week 3 in MLS. The guy in charge of the Sounders-Timbers game on March 16 will be Kevin Stott.

— Around the league, Chris Wondolowski got the feature treatment in USA Today, here’s another profile piece on Sporting KC, Bruce Arena previews the Galaxy’s upcoming CCL quarterfinal, and RSL defender Kenny Mansally wants to go back to his given name of “Abdoulie”.

— It doesn’t look warm in Colorado.

— Looks like U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati is aiming for a seat on FIFA’s executive committee. And with no one receiving a two-thirds vote on the National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot, there will be a runoff.

— Add PSG and Juventus to the quarterfinalists in UEFA Champions League, joining Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

— Lastly, is Wayne Rooney on the way out at Manchester United? Leo Messi had his foot cast in gold?
