Thursday notes: Brad Evans (calf) ruled out, ‘good chance’ Mauro Rosales available
The Sounders just wrapped up practice after taking Wednesday off. Here are a few notes:
* * *
— Midfielder Brad Evans (calf strain) has been ruled out this weekend after leaving Tuesday’s game in the first half. Midfielder Mauro Rosales was also subbed out with injury concerns after taking a hard hit early in the game, but coach Sigi Schmid said the captain is doing better than originally anticipated and that there’s a “good chance he should be available.”
— Other injury updates will come Friday. No update on anything Obafemi Martins-related either.
— Schmid said the Sounders won’t keep Portland from being able to play defender Mikael Silvestre (Seattle essentially traded his rights to the Timbers in preseason). You might remember Montreal asked that Lamar Neagle not be allowed to play in the season opener after being traded here.
— I noticed guys like Travis Bowen and Stephen Okai weren’t training with the reserves at the end of practice. I’ve asked for an update on their status and whether they’re still on trial.
— We are expecting to get Timbers coach Caleb Porter on a conference call this afternoon, so look out for updates from that.
— Lastly, a tweet from Schmid’s conference call with Portland media…
Sigi Schmid said on a call with Portland media that Zach Scott just gave Djimi Traore a crash course on the Sounders-Timbers rivalry.
