Steve Zakuani tells a fun story from his perspective of Djimi Traore’s goal
UPDATE 4:56 p.m. (Thu.) — I don’t think I need much of a reason to bring this post back, but I asked midfielder Steve Zakuani about his thoughts on Djimi Traore‘s goal Tuesday. Here was the response:
“I still can’t believe it,” Zakuani said after Thursday’s practice. “I was just telling him, because when the ball came out to him and he controlled it, I didn’t think he was going to shoot. I was open, so I was yelling. Then he shot, and I turned around and was yelling, ‘Djimi, you should’ve passed the ball!’ (laughs) … When I saw it go in, I started chasing him. Unbelievable. It’s one of those goals. He said it’s the best of his career. I think it has to be, because you just catch it perfectly. It has nothing to do with power. The technique was incredible on the goal. He’s happy that he came in No. 2 on SportsCenter ahead of Lionel Messi. I think he told his kids that. … Amazing goal. Both goals. DeAndre’s goal was good, too. Really good. And EJ’s goal. But Djimi kind of stole the show I think.”

“If you don’t try, you never score that kind of goal. … I would like to see it again. (smiles)” — Djimi Traore
“Djimi told me the last time he scored like this was with his youth team … but he was closer.” — Michael Gspurning
“Oh man, that was amazing. It topped mine, so I’m not too happy about that.” — DeAndre Yedlin
“I even applauded because it was very impressive.” — Tigres UANL coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti
