UPDATE 6:25 a.m. –A quick look over past results tells us Sounders FC’s 0-3-1 start also matches the worst four-game stretch at any point in any season. Seattle has never had a four-game losing streak.

This post might sound a bit similar to one last week, but Sounders FC is off to its worst four-game start in franchise history:
2009 — 3-1-0, nine points
2010 — 2-1-1, seven points
2011 — 0-2-2, two points
2012 — 2-1-1, seven points
2013 — 0-3-1, one point
As you can see, only one other team has gone its first four games without a win, and that 2011 squad went on to win its next game to get to 1-2-2.
That means this 2013 team has already clinched the worst five-game start to a season, as well.
Obviously the same caveats from the post last week apply — notably that a lot can change in 30 games, and the Sounders have historically been a strong team in the second half of the season. But they’re on the wrong side of history so far.
“We have to take the criticism, we have to take the backlash, we have to be able to be men and accept what’s going to come our way — and also know that it’s still salvageable,” said midfielder Steve Zakuani. “That’s our good fortune: that’s it’s so early in the season.”
