UPDATE 7:43 p.m. — Here is a text message from Carnell: “Nothing that I can really comment on. I’m sorry I’m not more helpful in that regard. Tough time for me personally is all I can say.”
Big news from Reign FC less than a week before the start of the NWSL season. Here is the press release…

Seattle Reign FC today appointed Head Coach Laura Harvey to serve in the dual roles of General Manager and Head Coach, taking over for GM Amy Carnell, who resigned her position with Reign FC for personal reasons.
“The organization would like to thank Amy for all she invested during her time at the club,” said Bill Predmore, owner of Seattle Reign FC. “Amy was the first employee of the club and helped put us in a position for a successful first season in the NWSL. Her passion for the sport and enthusiasm for the job will be missed.”
“I want to thank the club for the opportunity to help bring professional women’s soccer to Seattle,” said Amy Carnell. “I will always be a fan of the club and wish them all the best for this season and beyond.”
Laura Harvey is very familiar with the dual roles of GM and Head Coach, as she served in a similar position during her time with Arsenal Ladies.
“While disappointed about Amy’s departure, I’m excited by the new challenge,” said GM and Head Coach Laura Harvey. “We have a clear vision for what we want to achieve on and off the field, so I am pleased I’ll have the opportunity to more directly shape the destiny of the club.”
