COMMERCE CITY, Colo.—Welcome to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, where it’s a beautiful Saturday afternoon. No threat of a blizzard like we saw here last month for a World Cup qualifier between the U.S. and Costa Rica.
Once again, the Sounders (0-3-2) will be looking to get their first win of the MLS season.
Seattle is the only winless team in the league but has won six straight against the Rapids, who have won back-to-back games after a 0-3-2 start. The Sounders lead the series 7-1-1 all-time and are 2-1-1 in this stadium.
Health and player availability remain the big issue for the visitors, so it’ll be interesting to see how the lineups look around 2-2:15 p.m. Colorado took a blow this week in training as rookie forward Deshorn Brown (the team’s leading scorer) is out with a thigh injury.
Something else to look for: Chris Henderson, Sounders FC’s sporting director, will be one of four former players honored at halftime as the Rapids are set to relaunch their Gallery of Honor.
I’ll post lineups here when they become available.
Sounders FC lineup: GK Michael Gspurning, D DeAndre Yedlin, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Djimi Traore, D Leo Gonzalez, M Brad Evans, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Shalrie Joseph, M Steve Zakuani, F Lamar Neagle, F Obafemi Martins
Sounders FC bench: GK Marcus Hahnemann, D Zach Scott, D Marc Burch, M Mauro Rosales, M Mario Martinez, M Alex Caskey, F Sammy Ochoa
Colorado lineup: GK Clint Irwin, D Brian Mullan, D Drew Moor, D Marvell Wynne, D Chris Klute, M Tony Cascio, M Dillon Powers, M Hendry Thomas, M Nick LaBrocca, F Atiba Harris, F Danny Mwanga
Colorado bench: GK Steward Ceus, D Anthony Wallace, M Jamie Smith, M Nathan Sturgis, D Shane O’Neill, M Dillon Serna, F Kamani Hill
NOTE: Eddie Johnson didn’t travel with the hamstring injury. Obafemi Martins is back in the starting lineup up front with Lamar Neagle. Steve Zakuani pushes over to the left wing, where he’ll matchup with Rapids right back Brian Mullan. Zakuani was injured here almost two years to the day (April 22, 2011).
