The Sounders have a break in the MLS schedule but will keep active with an MLS Reserve League game today against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Kickoff at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila is set for 8 p.m. and admission is free (though $5 is the suggested donation at the gate and also the cost of parking).
A couple guys to keep an eye on in that game are Costa Rican trialist Josue Martinez, who has played for New York and Philadelphia, and rookie forward Will Bates, who just signed last week.
I’ll have some updates from the game on the scene. Until then, here are some links:
* * *
— First off, the Sounders and Seahawks have a new chief commercial officer: Eric Mastalir.
— Here are some quotes from U.S. U-20 coach Tab Ramos following Monday’s camp call-ups. He specifically talked about Sounders academy forward Jordan Morris. “In Jordan’s case, Sigi Schmid thinks very highly of him, and we value his opinion and look at Jordan’s track record. When he’s scoring one or two goals in every Academy game, that is something you seriously have to look at.”
— Also, you can see how Morris stacks up with the U-18 academy scoring leaders. That also helps explain his first call-up at any national team level.
— Referee assignments are out for next weekend in MLS, and Jorge Gonzalez will be the man in charge of the Union-Sounders game.
— Elsewhere around the league, New York’s Juninho was suspended an extra game for this action in the Kansas City game, here’s a look at where Landon Donovan stands in the career goal and assist standings, and the latest Castrol Index ratings are out (Michael Gspurning got high marks over the weekend).
— Lastly, Manchester United wrapped up another Premier League title Monday. Highlights of the win and celebration here.
