Sounders Women set to start W-League season at home Monday
It’s been a year of change for the Sounders Women, who will continue in the USL W-League despite not being granted an NWSL team. They, of course, left an indelible mark on the local soccer community last summer with a star-studded roster and huge crowds at Starfire Stadium.
Seattle is back with a roster of top college talent and several players with various level of national team experience. The team went 2-1-2 in preseason, mainly against regional college teams.
The regular season starts Monday with a 3 p.m. home game against the Los Angeles Strikers at Starfire. Full schedule here.
There is a new coach in charge in Hubert Busby, Jr., who will also serve as general manager. He replaces Michelle French, who left to become the first full-time head coach of the U.S. under-20 women’s national team.
University of Washington women’s coach Lesle Gallimore will be the team’s new technical director.
There will also be a heavy UW presence on the roster with Allie Beahan, Lindsay Elston, Isabel Farrell, Megan Kufeld and Annie Sittauer. Be sure to check out the full roster, which includes some with Canadian national team experience and a few U.S. U-20s.
Tickets of all kinds are available.
