Reign FC goalkeeper Hope Solo has been cleared medically following wrist surgery in March and will be available for selection in Saturday’s home game against Portland Thorns FC. Kickoff at Starfire Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
Solo has been added to the active roster, and as a corresponding move, defender Victoria Fredrick was waived.
“We are pleased with Hope’s recovery,” said coach Laura Harvey in a team release. “Her experience, knowledge and ability have given the players a much-needed boost. We are mindful of Hope’s continued road to full match fitness, but we are happy to be getting her in and around the team and on the field again.”
That seems hardly a guarantee Solo will be ready to start right away, but even if she is, Seattle (0-6-1) still faces a tall task Saturday having lost six straight. Defender Kate Deines and Elli Reed have been ruled out with ankle injuries, and defender Jenny Ruiz will be serving a one-game suspension for a red card last week.
Portland (5-1-1) features a star-studded attack with Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair. The Thorns won the first meeting of the season, 2-1 at Jeld-Wen Field.
Well I can officially say that recovery this go around was much easier than the shoulder! I’ve missed you guys! 🙂
