Will Robbie Rogers be a member of the Los Angeles Galaxy by Sunday’s game?

UPDATE 7:17 p.m. — It appears the answer is yes as Soccer By Ives also says deal is done and the Galaxy has announced a press conference for Saturday. It is reportedly uncertain if Rogers will be in the 18 against the Sounders.

There have been developments in the Robbie Rogers story Friday.

First off, USA Today had a long feature on the returning MLS star and his decision to come out of retirement following a public announcement earlier this year that he’s gay. The piece mentioned that Rogers has agreed to contract terms with the Los Angeles Galaxy, a team he has been training with for the past few weeks.

That led to reporters connecting the dots and speculating on Twitter that there was a deal in place with the Chicago Fire, which held Rogers’ MLS rights.

Finally, Steven Goff of The Washington Post reported through sources (see tweets below) that the deal is for Mike Magee, who has six goals this season.

Rogers, of course, would be the first openly gay professional male athlete who was still active.

Twitter accounts with connections to the Galaxy and Fire have done little to deny the reports. Here are the tweets from Goff:
