Sounders fall back out of playoff position by all measures

05272013 standings

The imbalance in games played always make it tricky to compare teams throughout the season. The Sounders, as an example, have played fewer games than nearly everyone else in the Western Conference, so point totals can sometimes be misleading.

Well, whether you look at points or points per match, Seattle is back out of a playoff position following Sunday’s 4-0 road loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Sounders had been in the top five in PPM coming into the week, if not on total points.

The team’s league schedule for May is over — there is an Open Cup game Wednesday — and it definitely looks like June and July could be a moving months for the Rave Green. Most of the games are against teams below Seattle in the standings:

June 1 — at Chivas USA
June 8 — vs. Vancouver
June 22 — at Real Salt Lake
July 3 — vs. D.C. United
July 6 — at Vancouver
July 13 — at San Jose
July 20 — vs. Colorado
July 28 — vs. Chivas USA
