Preliminary rosters for this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup were made available Friday, and Sounders FC’s Brad Evans and Eddie Johnson were included in the U.S. men’s national team’s list of 35. The final roster will be trimmed to 23 by June 27 before the tournament kicks off July 7.
Coach Sigi Schmid said he talked to USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann about Evans’ and Johnson’s involvement:
“We have sort of had our discussions and have an understanding of where it is for them,” Schmid said. “I wasn’t sure if Evans was going to stay all the way through all the World Cup qualifiers. It looks now like he might be, so if he is, I think his chances of being in the Gold Cup are decreased. And same thing with Eddie.”
You can check out all the preliminary rosters for all 12 countries here (you’ll notice Mario Martinez isn’t listed for Honduras).
