Sounders grab Cascadia Cup lead Saturday

cascadia cupUPDATE: The standings and results have been updated after Sounders FC’s 3-2 home win Saturday.

“Last year, we felt a little bit hard done in the Cascadia Cup by having to play four away and two at home,” coach Sigi Schmid said. “This is the year we get to play four at home and two away, so we have to make that part of the thing stand up. We want to bring the Cascadia Cup to our fans.”

The third game of the 2013 Cascadia Cup is on tap for Saturday, as Sounders FC will host the Vancouver Whitecaps with more than 50,000 fans at CenturyLink Field.

Seattle is looking to win back the trophy this year, while Vancouver is simply looking for its first win against a Pacific Northwest rival since joining MLS.

The Whitecaps are on an 0-6-5 stretch against the Sounders and Timbers, most recently settling for a 2-2 home tie against Portland on May 18.

This is Seattle’s second home game of four in the unbalanced schedule. Portland hosted four games in the three-way rivalry last year en route to claiming the prize.

Here is a look at the 2013 standings and results (past winners after the jump):

Seattle Sounders FC — 1-0-1 (4 pts.) +1 GD, four goals scored
Portland Timbers — 0-0-2 (2 pts.), 0 GD, three goals scored
Vancouver Whitecaps — 0-1-1 (1 pt.), -1 GD, four goals scored
