On-the-field woes continued for Reign FC, as Seattle’s NWSL team suffered a 1-0 home loss to FC Kansas City on Sunday.
The lone goal, in front of 1,377 fans at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, came in the 63rd minute on an own goal by goalkeeper Hope Solo. It was a bizarre play — which you can view around the 1:33.00 mark in the game replay — where a tight-angled cross to the left of goal by Erika Tymrak bounced off Solo then off the post then off Solo and in.
No luck there — a familiar tune this season.
The Reign (0-8-1) has lost eight games in a row, with six of those coming via shutout. The team hasn’t scored in 313 minutes.
Seattle’s next three games are on the road, starting June 16 at Portland, followed by June 23 against Western New York and then June 26 against the Boston Breakers. U.S. national team star Megan Rapinoe is expected to be back for the next home on June 29 against Chicago.
