Sounders FC’s Eriq Zavaleta loaned to NASL’s San Antonio until June 23

zavaleta mug 2013Sounders FC’s first-round draft pick Eriq Zavaleta has been loaned to San Antonio of the second-division North American Soccer League.

Zavaleta will play two games for the Scorpions — Tampa Bay Rowdies on June 15 and FC Edmonton on June 22 — before being recalled on June 23.

The 20 year old was drafted No. 10 overall out of national champion Indiana, where he was the nation’s third-leading scorer. He made his MLS debut on March 23 against the San Jose Earthquakes, but hasn’t played otherwise beyond that six-minute appearance.

Zavaleta has started all five MLS Reserve League games for Sounders FC and has scored one goal.
