Sounders FC

Daily coverage of Seattle Sounders FC, MLS and world soccer.

June 14, 2013 at 9:24 AM

Bye week programming note

I just wanted to give a heads-up that print and blog coverage the next few days will be very light. I’m actually headed out of town for a friend’s wedding, and the Sounders FC bye week means there won’t be much to cover anyway.

Here are a few links in the meantime:

*     *     *

— In case you missed it, national media had some nice things to say about Seattle following Tuesday’s USA-Panama World Cup qualifier at CenturyLink Field. Here are reports from FOXSoccer.com, ProSoccerTalk and Soccer by Ives.

— The USA-Panama game had 1.436 million viewers on ESPN, making it the second-most watched qualifier in the network’s history. The Seattle-Tacoma market had a 2.5 rating, second best in the country. Another 1.2 million reportedly watched on UniMas.

Kasey Keller will be a part of ESPN’s Confederations Cup coverage, a tournament Nigeria players haven’t reported to yet.

— MLSsoccer.com folk think some Sounders should be in the starting lineup for the MLS All-Stars. Around the league, Alain Rochat isn’t happy about being traded to D.C. United, here is a chart with all the salary information for teams in the league (and around the world), and here was the latest Instant Replay (which included some thoughts on the Seattle-Vancouver game).

— Here is an in-depth story on the Seattle man killed trying to dribble a soccer ball to Brazil.

— On the women’s scene, here is an interview with Reign FC’s Jess Fishlock and also some NWSL power rankings. Sounders Women goalkeeper Erin McNulty won W-League Player of the Week recently.

— In some miscellaneous links, there was a controversy up in Canada over players wearing turbans, Jimmy Conrad posted a captivating video of his life and career, another report says repetitive heading isn’t good for you, and Spanish veteran Marcos Senna has signed with the Cosmos.

— Who is dumber: The guy who tries to throw a dog off the field or the player who kicks a guy carrying him off the field in a stretcher?

— Lastly, a great goal from Dutch star Wesley Sneijder
