Reign FC beats Western New York Flash, extends unbeaten streak to five

reignfcReign FC is rolling.

Seattle got a late goal from Christine Nairn to beat the Western New York Flash, 3-2, Thursday in front of 2,517 at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila. The red-hot Reign (3-9-3) also got goals from the stellar, platinum-blonde duo of Jess Fishlock and Megan Rapinoe to extend an unbeaten streak to five games, including three wins.

WNY (6-4-5) got its two goals from superstar forward Abby Wambach, who opened the scoring in the ninth minute and later tied the game at 2-2 on a 46th-minute penalty she drew herself.

Trailing 1-0 early, Seattle equalized in the 14th minute through Fishlock, assisted by Jessica McDonald. Rapinoe then gave the hosts the lead a minute before halftime, capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Adrianna Franch.

The Flash would fight back, but Nairn would eventually collect her second winner of the NWSL season, a left-footed volley in the 81st minute set up by defender Elli Reed.

Seattle’s four PKs allowed are tied for most in the league. The Reign will host the Washington Spirit at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, which will be the first NWSL to be broadcast nationally, as FOX Soccer will carry the game. Tickets are available on the team website.
