The Sounders might have trouble putting together an 18-man gameday roster for a July 20 home game against the Colorado Rapids. Seattle has 28 players, but 11 are recovery from injury after Saturday’s 1-0 road loss at San Jose — plus Osvaldo Alonso earned a red card in the final moments.
Here is a look at the personnel issues coach Sigi Schmid is facing:
Osvaldo Alonso (facing suspension after red card Saturday)
Brad Evans (left Saturday’s game with a rib injury)
Michael Gspurning (left Saturday’s game with a wrist injury)
Djimi Traore (left Saturday’s game with a hamstring injury)
Obafemi Martins (recovering from calf injury)
Shalrie Joseph (recovering from calf injury)
Alex Caskey (recovering from ankle injury)
Andy Rose (recovering from hamstring injury)
Philip Lund (recovering from foot injury)
Steve Zakuani (recovering from sports hernia surgery)
Marcus Hahnemann (recovering from hamstring injury)
Josh Ford (recovering from knee surgery)
Martins, for one, has tweeted that he expects to be back against the Rapids, but we’ll see. I guess there’s also the chance Alonso’s red card could be suspended — it’s happened before.
We’ll look to get updates on some of the recent injuries later in the evening, but what do you make of the personnel issues?
