The U.S. men’s national team has already clinched a quarterfinal berth in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, but first comes the group-stage finale against Costa Rica tonight at 5 p.m.
Remember, after this game coach Jurgen Klinsmann can make four changes to the roster, possibly adding Sounders FC’s Eddie Johnson or Brad Evans for the knockout rounds. That would seem like a hard blow to an injury-ravaged team, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
Costa Rica has already qualified to the next round, too, along with Panama, Mexico, Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago and El Salvador. Martinique (1-2-0) is in the mix for the final spot, but the Cuba-Belize winner tonight (both 0-2) could advance, as well.
Here are some U.S. notes, including mention of a federation-best seven-game winning streak.
