Eddie Johnson called up by U.S. for Gold Cup knockout rounds, Brad Evans stays

*     *     *

The U.S. men’s national team announced late Wednesday night that Sounders FC’s Eddie Johnson is one of four additions to the Gold Cup roster for the knockout rounds. The forward could be unavailable through the July 28 final.

Teams are allowed four changes mid-tournament and the U.S. called up Johnson, Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler and Alan Gordon. Those who have left the team are Herculez Gomez, Oguchi Onyewu, Corey Ashe and Jack McInerney.

Seattle’s Brad Evans was on the preliminary roster for the U.S. but wasn’t included in the roster shakeup.

Here is the full list of changes from CONCACAF.

We’ll get more information from the Sounders on Johnson’s departure after Thursday’s practice. Until then, what do you make of the news? Did you think it would happen?
