Sounders FC’s Andrew Weber up for MLS Save of the Week (Wednesday links)

Sounders FC goalkeeper Andrew Weber, just a few minutes after coming on as an injury replacement, just a few days after being acquired on loan, came up with an MLS Save of the Week nominee Saturday against San Jose.

Not too bad.

Let’s get to some links:

*     *     *

— Here is an update on the Sounders’ reported pursuit of Levante defender David Navarro.

Pretty interesting story here involving minority owner Drew Carey.

— Around MLS, Seattle isn’t the only team with an Argentine named Mauro anymore, D.C. United traded defender Brandon McDonald to table-topping Real Salt Lake, and here’s a piece on ex-Sounder Nathan Sturgis (a revelation this year in Colorado).

— Here are interviews with popular guys Carlos Bocanegra and Dwayne De Rosario.

— In a couple videos, James Riley talks about his local 7-on-7 tournament, and some Reign FC ladies were on KING-5 with New Day Northwest.

— The Reign, believe it or not, jumped up to No. 1 in the power rankings on the NWSL website.

— The Sounders FC U-23s had their season come to an end with a 4-5-5 record after a 1-1 tie against the Timbers U-23s.

— Around the world of soccer, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said Brazil might not have been the best choice to host the 2014 World Cup and also that Qatar might have to host the 2022 World Cup in the winter.

— Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho apparently talked Frank Lampard out of a move stateside and is reportedly after Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney.

— Lastly, it looks Herculez Gomez is leaving the USMNT for the Gold Cup knockout rounds. The federation can make up to four changes, which might include the addition of Eddie Johnson and/or Brad Evans, and those are expected to be announced Thursday morning.
