Sounders still floundering into the second half of the season
Sounders FC’s place in the Western Conference standings still doesn’t look good.
One win in five games will do that.
As you can see, Seattle is seven points out of a playoff position, or a .13 points-per-game difference if you want to even things up when it comes to games played. The team is almost just as far removed from last-place Chivas USA, however, which happens to be Sunday’s opponent.
A home game against a bottom-feeder might seem like a best-case scenario, but Chivas has actually earned more points in its last five games (6) than the Sounders (4). The Goats have also made some big additions recently in talented young forward Erick Torres (on loan from Chivas of Guadalajara) and former USMNT captain Carlos Bocanegra (acquired through the allocation process after a trade with Toronto FC).
On the other hand, a more optimistic one, a win for Seattle would get the PPG to 1.47, which is far from a catastrophic figure with another 15 games to go.
Here is a look at the Sounders’ next five games:
July 28 — vs. Chivas USA
Aug. 3 — vs. FC Dallas
Aug. 10 — at Toronto FC
Aug. 17 — at Houston Dynamo
Aug. 25 — vs. Portland Timbers
Big one to end that stretch. Any thoughts going into the week?
