HBO’s Real Sports investigates Chivas USA (Tuesday links)

Ex-Sounder James Riley looks to be right in the middle of an investigation by HBO’s Real Sports on allegations of discrimination within Chivas USA.

The MLS club was sued earlier this year on those grounds by a pair of former academy coaches, and many remember in preseason when it appeared many of the non-Latino players were being traded away.

The report, for HBO subscribers, will run at at 7 p.m. (the East Coast channel) and at its regularly scheduled time at 10 p.m.

I’m sure lots of people from around the league will be watching. Let’s get to some links:

Eddie Johnson talked about his attention-grabbing hair with USA Today, admitting he might have some regrets.

— Around MLS, Sporting Kansas City signed coach and technical director Peter Vermes to a new deal, Chicago signed a DP forward out of Ecuador, and Montreal has announced it is in advanced negotiations with an Argentine midfielder.

— Here are the referee assignments for two weeks from now, where Edvin Jurisevic will be in charge of an Aug. 3 home game against FC Dallas.

— The latest from the rumor mill has the Los Angeles Galaxy after Manchester United’s Anderson as a DP.

Here is a piece on rising USMNT star Joe Corona.

— SI’s Grant Wahl took a look at what goes into the FIFA world rankings. He also passed along this link about inflated prices in Brazil leading into the World Cup, including $30 for a cheese pizza.

— Lastly, the latest from Instant Replay suggest Obafemi Martins might deserve a fine for simulation last game against Colorado. That program has been off on a few Sounders-related observations in the past, however.
