The Sounders have officially waived forward Sammy Ochoa, a move that has been expected since since morning when the 26-year-old wasn’t at practice.
Coach Sigi Schmid noted the production wasn’t there (Ochoa had scored eight goals in all competition last season) but also indicated that the move was made to accommodate an addition to the roster.
Seattle has 27 players signed, but two are on the disabled list, leaving five open roster spots. There are also three available international slots available as the summer transfer window is set to close Aug. 8.
