A look at Sounders FC’s roster following the release of forward Sammy Ochoa

Seattle Sounders FC LogoThe Sounders have officially waived forward Sammy Ochoa, a move that has been expected since since morning when the 26-year-old wasn’t at practice.

Coach Sigi Schmid noted the production wasn’t there (Ochoa had scored eight goals in all competition last season) but also indicated that the move was made to accommodate an addition to the roster.

Seattle has 27 players signed, but two are on the disabled list, leaving five open roster spots. There are also three available international slots available as the summer transfer window is set to close Aug. 8.

Here is a look at the roster…

Midfielders (9): Osvaldo Alonso, Mauro Rosales, Brad Evans, Lamar Neagle, Servando Carrasco, Shalrie Joseph, Andy Rose^, Alex Caskey, Philip Lund^

Forwards (5): Obafemi Martins^, Eddie Johnson, David Estrada, Eriq Zavaleta, Will Bates

Disabled list (2): Josh Ford, Steve Zakuani

On loan with Sporting Lisbon (1): Fredy Montero

League pool goalkeeper (1): Doug Herrick

Non-roster players in training recently (2): Aaron Kovar (academy alumnus), Duncan McCormick (academy product)
