Blair Gavin belatedly arrives to train with Sounders FC (Friday links)

Seattle Sounders FC LogoA story from the IMG Academy says that Blair Gavin, formerly of Chivas USA and the New England Revolution, is in town for an eight-day training stint with Sounders FC.

Gavin, you might remember, was on the preseason camp roster but wasn’t able to make it in to Seattle.

The 24-year-old midfielder is another Akron product, meaning there will be three of them around with DeAndre Yedlin and Steve Zakuani.

Let’s get to some links:

*     *     *

— Another day, another honor for Yedlin, as the Sounders FC rookie has won MLS Goal of the Week.

— Sounder at Heart has a good roundup of links, notably of some familiar faces in action in Europe.

— Former USMNT coach Bob Bradley, who’s currently in charge of Egypt’s national team, was on The Daily Show last night and also joined the guys at ExtraTime Radio.

— Around MLS, Toronto FC signed a Spanish winger, Montreal signed a Spanish defender, here’s a piece catching up with Chivas USA defender Carlos Bocanegra, and Landon Donovan has been added to the MLS All-Star Game roster in place of the injured Robbie Keane (it is LD’s 13th straight All-Star nomination).

— Did you see Thierry Henry‘s new tattoos?

— In national team news, here is a piece on Donovan’s next step being integration with the first team, here is a video report from FOX Soccer including thoughts from Eddie Johnson, and it appears the USMNT will call-up German-American prospect John Anthony Brooks for an upcoming friendly.

— Lastly, as of publishing this post, Mexican national team coach Jose Manuel de la Torre still had his job. Though that could change any day now after a disappointing Gold Cup exit…
