Reign FC gets back to winning ways at home against Chicago
Reign FC won for the fifth time in seven games Thursday, blasting the Chicago Red Stars, 4-1, in front of 2,017 at Starfire Stadium.
Megan Rapinoe scored twice, upping her goal total to four, and Seattle (5-10-3) also got goals from Kaylyn Kyle and Liz Bogus to continue a hot streak (5-1-1) after going winless in the first 11 games of the season (0-9-2).
The loss was a big blow to Chicago’s playoff hopes as the visitors fell to 6-7-4, five points out of the final playoff spot with five games to play.
Reign goalkeeper Hope Solo stopped a penalty kick in the second half for the hosts but couldn’t quite secure the team’s first shutout of the season.
Former USWNT defender Stephanie Cox made her NWSL debut in the starting lineup.
Seattle hasn’t quite been eliminated from the playoffs mathematically, but it’s a one-in-a-million shot at this point. Even still, a second-half turnaround has been something to celebrate.
Here was our game story for the paper.
