Local 55-and-over women’s team kicks off World Masters Games (Thursday links)

Here is a cool story about local women’s soccer team “Seattle’s Best” headed for Italy for a tournament — though you might not have guessed it’s a 55-and-over team.

They’ll be playing in the World Masters Games (an Olympics-style event) in Turin, Italy, starting today.

Let’s get to some links:

*     *     *

— Looks like Roberto Chen has indeed signed with Spain’s Malaga, and for a lot more money than the Sounders would’ve been able to pay.

— It also looks like Mario Martinez will be staying with his club in Honduras, Real Espana.

Didier Drogba could be eying a move to MLS, according to a teammate. Another is Ivica Olic, and you might remember he was once linked to the Sounders.

— Stoke City is staying busy with its Americans. Brek Shea is out a few weeks with a knee injury, according to Soccer By Ives, and now the club is reportedly after Omar Gonzalez and Juan Agudelo.

— Sounders Women forward Janine Beckie has been called up by the U.S. U-20 national team.

— Portland Thorns FC has signed former University of Washington standout Tina Ellertson.

— Lastly, Cristiano Ronaldo was at the Dodgers game last night, where he threw out the first pitch, did some juggling, took some batting practice…  check it out.
