My MLS power rankings — Week 24

Here are some other MLS power rankings leaguewide from ESPN.com, SI.com, ProSoccerTalk and MLSsoccer.com.

*     *     *

Team (prev. rank) Comment
1. Real Salt Lake (5) Back on top led by Alvaro Saborio, who has nine goals in just 11 games due to int’l duty
2. Sporting K.C. (4) GM/coach Peter Vermes will be inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on Oct. 11
3. N.Y. Red Bulls (1) No. 1 has been a curse in these rankings; the last four on top have lost the next week
4. Portland (3) Hit some adversity with an Open Cup defeat in semis, three-game MLS winless drought
5. Sounders FC (9) It took 26 games into the season, but coach Sigi Schmid finally used a repeat lineup
6. Montreal (2) Defense anyone? 34 goals allowed are second worst in the East despite a winning record
7. L.A. Galaxy (6) Landon Donovan’s hat trick has him at 130 career goals, four from tying the MLS record
8. Colorado (7) Eight games unbeaten is one shy of matching the club’s run best (April 30-June 11, 2011)
9. Philadelphia (8) The resurgent Conor Casey has scored seven times since the last Jack McInerney goal
10. Vancouver (10) Camilo (14 goals) has led ‘Caps to league’s second-best offense (1.57 goals/game)
11. Chicago (14) Midfielder Joel Lindpere’s two goals and six assists have all come in the last eight games
12. FC Dallas (12) Ended a 465-minute scoreless drought against Los Angeles, but also gave up three goals
13. San Jose (11) On a four-game winning streak at home but a four-game losing streak on the road
14. Houston (13) Hosts Seattle this weekend having never lost at home in the head-to-head series (3-0-1)
15. Columbus (17) Stunned N.Y. behind two goals from Federico Higuain, one a Goal of the Week candidate
16. New England (15) Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth continues his great year: 1.10 GAA, nine shutouts
17. Toronto FC (16) Will be the answer to trivia years from now when asked which team Dempsey played first?
18. D.C. United (18) In position to win a trophy, believe it or not, by advancing to the U.S. Open Cup final
19. Chivas USA (19) Leads MLS in both yellow cards (49) and red cards (eight); it’s been that kind of year
